Marineland Melanesia developed from a love of crocodiles, and a passion for collecting tribal art. Once you visit us you will understand why we feel these massive reptiles should be appreciated and respected as true living dinosaurs.

In 1971, the Craig Family moved more than thirty crocodiles from the island of Daru (PNG) to take up residence on Green Island. Since then our crocs have thrived and grown bigger and more impressive! We also have lots of new additions to the family.

Our big boss of course is Cassius, at 5.48 metres. Cassius is only just the start of our family of crocodiles. Say hi to 'Bronto' and his brother 'Bulla' who are both over 4 metres, 'Whitey' is quickly catching up at 4 metres and then 'Trinity' who although only 3.5 metres has already proven himself to be quite deadly, after originally being relocated to Marineland because he attacked a human!

Most of our big crocs, like Cassius, are Saltwater Crocodiles (Crocodylus Porosus) but we also house many New Guinea crocodiles (Crocodylus Novaeguineae) a species of crocodile only found in Papua New Guinea. We also have our newest member of the team on display now - Ally the American alligator! (Alligator Mississippiensis).

Cassius is the boss of all the crocs at Marineland and over a metre longer than all our other giants, check out our Cassius page to read more about him!
